During pregnancy many physical changes occur, many of which result in increased spinal load and reduced stability predisposing the pregnant mother to pain and potential for injury.
Such changes include:
These changes lead to nerve compression syndromes, low back and pelvic pain discomfort upper back and neck discomfort and fatigue, stress incontinence and extremity symptoms.
Taking care of pregnant patients is a great interest of mine. My treatment strategy is tailored specifically to each patient, and the techniques that I utilize are very gentle and safe for the mother and baby. I utilize a variety of manual therapy techniques, joint mobilization or manipulation, and soft tissue treatments. Stabilization exercises are integral part of the treatment and pelvic belting to help with stabilization of the pelvis may be necessary.
